Telegraph Harbor to Pirates Cove, DeCoursey Island

We depart at 1100 hrs after coffee and muffins with the Albineers. at 1300 we enter Pirates cove and stern tie to a chain and ring from the shore. Joyce does a good job rowing out the line and bringing it back to the boat. We are anchored at low tide so she can just reach the ring while standing in Pashmina. At high tide we are at eye level to the attached chain.

Albineers of BC Rendezvous Telegraph Harbor Marina

8 June 2013 Saturday
After an 0830 departure we head over to Conover Cove where some of the Albins have spent the night. We see them departing as we pull in and take our peek at this delightful cove. There is a dock, trails to hike and a small anchorage. This looks like something we might do on the way home.

We keep the other boats in view as we head for Telegraph. This will be a fun stop over to meet new Albin owners and see lots of boats.

Skol: Mike and Penny Grant have made a by-fold cabin door to give more room to get in and out with refigerator build in.

The gathering was wonderful and Shatoosh and Pashmina were big hits with the group. We were the only American Albin there. We met so many wonderful owners, the dinner was very good which was prepared by the marina staff; bbq hamburgers, Cesar salad, dessert. This was our most expensive stop over; $CA- 43 for moorage, 3 for a shower, 3 for ice, 16 for dinner. The friendships, the wonderful array of people and their boats make an Albin Gathering a must... What fun! I failed to get a photo of 2 important people in the Albineers. Iris and John Down. They plan the events and make certain everyone is welcomed and cared for. Thank you both for all your years of service to the club. You are both dear to my heart and very special people.

This is a one hour trip and we hook up to a buoy at the provencial park.

Bedwell Harbor to Annette Cove, Prevost Island

6 June 2013 Thursday
Joyce's Reiki Master friend Shelly on Pender Island meets us at the Marina. Then drives us to the grocery store where we stock up of fresh items.

We return to Shatoosh and store all the goodies in the pantry and refrigerator. 1240 hrs we bid Bedwell and Shelly farewell and head off to our first destination, Annette Cove. A beautiful little cove to anchor in. After dinner Joyce takes Pashmina for her first row.

Joyce arrives thanks to Collene of Seattle, who has picked her up at Sea-Tac airport and brought her to La Conner.

   




















We have to look at this new constructed ship, as it is being prepared to go to Russia. It is a landing craft built by Munford.

Langley to La Conner

4 June 2013 Tuesday 0550 hrs.

A beautiful morning awaits us as I put Pashmina in the water from the swim platform and unhook the power cord. We have a slight north wind and 1 foot seas which allows me to cross over to the Camano Island side of Saratoga Passage. This will allow me to be in the lee of Camano should the north wind pick up. I will be bucking the tide so it is a slow slog north. My speed is 5.2k. My coffee mug is filled so I am set for the morning.

My first glimpse of Mt. Baker is breath taking.

I enter La Conner at 1100 hrs. and fuel up, ice up, pump out, dock inside the guest dock, top off the water tank, clean a cooler and have a 4 way conference call to Hawaii at 1200hrs. Then emails, blogging, more blogging to catch up. I am making them short.

I'll be glad my crew is coming tomorrow and all the work is done. How nice for my buddy, Joyce. She is flying in from Arizona and will arrive in the morning. We will be off in the Gulf Islands for a couple of weeks. So after this I won't be blogging or phone calling. How nice.

Next Stop Langley on Whidbey Island

I was out of Blake harbor by 0600. Not long after my departure I seemed to be playing dodge ball with the 6 AM ferry routes. The one on the left is leaving Bainbridge Island and the one on the right is going there. While my route if right up the middle headed for Whidbey Island.

I towed Pashmina but put her on the swim platform as the marina is small. Langley is a small harbor but nice place to spend the night, visit the city and have a good meal. I met old friends who I have known and in fact these are my two favorite writers; Penelope Bourk and Margaret Bendet. They are fairly new residents of the island and new friends to each other. Writing is their link. I marvel at their way with words, carefully carving them out from some mystical place deep within. I sat in awe as I savored my Thai fish sizzler combination.

Penelope Stuart Bourk is an expert on mythology, writing, sculpting wood with weaving to tell a story. She has an 18 piece exhibit on Homer's Odessey which is spectacular. Her husband is also a wood turner and makes beautiful bowls. http://www.penelopestuartbourk.com/

All in all, we had a great dinner and conversation and Margaret got to see Shatoosh and Pashmina for the
first time. If you are ever on Whidbey island, look these two exceptional ladies up. Take a course or two, write your own obituary, but don't make it boring, as you might not get a passing grade.    

I need to come to Whidbey more often.  This was fun.
