Hi
Here are some pics of the Maple Leaf around our harbour. She is a 30 ft. long trunk cabin cruiser, built by J.J.Taylor in Toronto in 1936. Powered by a Chrysler Crown flat head 6 cyl gasoline engine @ 115 hp. Capable of sleeping 8: 2 bow V bunks, 2 main cabin up and down bunks and a 2 person pull out in the aft cabin. It's easier to feed 8 people than to bed them . Just received her from overhaul in early July. Not much sailing this year, 2 trips. She looks and runs beatifully[No leak in the rain and that's new for me]. Btw, I have been owner since 1973 following 2 years with a partner. Have berthed her at Starport Landing [originally Crates Yacht basin] since 1973. The nature of the covered slips attracts me. Most of our sailing is in and around Lake Simcoe and Couchiching. The nearest port is Orillia. We are located on the NE side of McPhee Bay in the north of Simcoe, about 1 1/2 hrs north of Toronto. In a good season we will sail to Georgian Bay in Lake Huron, several times. Have also sailed to Lake Ontario, however, that means passing 41 locks vs 5 the other way..
Regards Bob
Bob,
What a beautiful boat. I love the lines and the tumblehome. It always amazes me that boat builders don't make boats like this anymore. Such classic lines. I know you must be proud of her and you have really taken such care of her. Thank you so much for sending the photos and the posting as the Maple Leaf will certainly bring some smiles as everyone looks at her lines and we get an opportunity to see where your cruising grounds are.
Bob is also related to me through our common ancestor Jospeh Gilmour and Mary Clarke, just as James Gilmour is.
